news article about severe flu season
This is serious

This is serious stuff last year flu only killed 8000 people and 16000 the year before but these were not severe years. Government scientists tell us that the present vaccine will be effective even against the newer drifted strain that is appearing. Vaccines help.

I have put together some clips of information .

We have both NHS and private flu jabs available (and COVID). If you are eligible please consider getting vaccinated. it could save your life. Call 01788 834848 for an appointment. We have some appointments or Saturday 15th November - but these are going fast.

in my opinion the numbers for flu and covid are frightening if Flu has not taken off and Covid is at baseline levels - see below, remember vaccines help

NHS issues flu jab SOS with worst of winter only weeks away. The message is vaccines help

6 November 2025

The NHS has issued a ‘flu jab SOS’, with England’s top nurse warning people to get protected now, with only weeks to go before the worst of the flu season typically bites.

Eligible adults are being urged to come forward now, so they are fully protected ahead of the usual flu season peak in the winter months.

The NHS is calling on eligible adults to get their jab as soon as possible to stamp out the early wave of flu hitting the NHS more than a month earlier this year, with cases triple the same time last year.

It follows the biggest flu season in Australia’s history – often an accurate predictor of what is around the corner for people in England.

  • flu positivity increased with a weekly mean positivity rate of 11.9%, compared to 10.9% in the previous week (this is based on a percentage of people who test positive in hospital).

That's one in 10 people

  • COVID-19 positivity in hospital settings decreased with a weekly mean positivity rate of 5% compared with 5.9% in the previous week

That's on in 20 people.

The maths suggest the risk is significant.

The vaccines are effective, and an extract and the link to the full article

Our analysis shows that this season’s vaccines are offering effective protection against severe flu – children are around 70 to 75% less likely to attend or be admitted to hospital with flu if vaccinated and adults are around 30 to 40% less likely to attend or be admitted. This is similar to what we see most years with flu vaccines and continues to demonstrate that flu vaccines remain the best protection against flu. We strongly encourage all those eligible to get vaccinated against flu as soon as possible,

Based on our previous experience we expect the vaccines to be in short supply as stocks are used up. if you wait until the flu season is in full swing the vaccine supply may be exhausted. Act now get yourself protected.
