The pharmacy is introducing a private weight loss clinic. Dr Brown will be managing the service initially.  It is important to note that our underlying principles are to deliver a first class service and to ensure that this is delivered safely and that all your medical conditions are considered. 

It routinely involves a full face to face initial consultation, we believe this sets us apart from on line services.

Weight has to be seen as a condition and people who are overweight have a problem.  In many ways it is no different to any other health issue.  People with asthma have problems with their breathing which is something that is built into them and not something that they do to themselves.

It is widely accepted that weight problems are at least 40% genetic which explains why most of us can think of people who seem to eat a lot but do not have weight issues and others of us who gain weight easily and struggle to effectively reduce their weight.

Our service is not simply about using drugs to make people lighter for now. Firstly, the drugs may not be appropriate for some people and secondly, because the long term aim is to have a healthy weight long term even after stopping medications.

To help you be successful with weight management over a prolonged period our service will include advice about eating and an assessment of diet as well as advice about physical activity all of which are critical to long term success. It may well be that after initial consultation, you decide to pursue a period of diet modification, increased exercise and possibly joining a slimming group. 

Even if you opt for medication, Xenical, Wegovy or Mounjaro it is important to recognise that the best long term benefits are achieved by working on your diet and taking increased exercise as well as medication. This produces an increased benefit from the drug but also prepares you for a time when you stop using it. 

At the moment, there is considerable debate about whether it is wise to use maintenance treatment after the weight reduction target is reached.  In my opinion currently, the answer is not clear but hopefully it will emerge over the next year or two.

It is important to recognise that any treatment with medication needs to be monitored and used properly. It is very important to pay attention to the potential side effects and risks, be aware of these and report immediately to your doctor if you are concerned that any of these are occurring.

It is also very important to recognise that this needs to be a regular dose and it is not wise to stop and start.

It is important that the advice and guidance about dosage is carried out. This will mean that any medication is increased gradually at the right time in accordance with the guidelines.  We will of course advise on that.

In terms of pricing, we basically try and be as economic as possible.  In general, our prices are favourably comparative although in terms of buying power we certainly cannot compete with some of the big firms, but we will normally be less expensive or thereabouts at worst. Our major advantage is the face to face element of our services.

We will not quote a price at the outset for a 12 month period.  Prices are on a monthly basis and will not change if the price that we have to pay for any medication does not change.

1                    When we receive your enquiry with contact details we will call you briefly to ensure we can meet your needs and the if you are considering medication you satisfy the rules for us to prescribe medication.

2                    If you decide to proceed we will book a face to face consultation. there is a charge for the 45 minute consultation, but this is waived if you decide to opt for injections.

3                    Providing advice and support as well as medication if that is the chosen option.
